One Year Later: Teresa + Ronan’s Ballyliffin Lodge wedding

Teresa and Ronan were married on May 19th 2017 in a ceremony at St. Mary’s Clonmany, before hosting their reception at the always stunning, Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa Hotel. As they approach their first wedding anniversary (which just so happens to be when the Royal Wedding will take place), Teresa shares her favourite memories of their day.

Teresa, how did you both meet?

We were both working in Dublin and on a night out in Harry’s on the Green, Ronan plucked up the courage to come over and chat. We hit it off straight away and he had my number by the end of the night!

Tell us about married life. How has your first year been?

It’s been a great year and pretty hectic too! We moved into a new house and I changed jobs as well, so we’ve been busy. We’ve loved spending more time together and settling into our new home.

What is your favourite memory of your wedding day?

Ronan really enjoyed the ceremony and seeing all our family and friends there. For me, it’s hard to pick just one, but I’d say it was the moment the Priest declared us husband and wife. I’ll never forget walking down the aisle as a married couple – I couldn’t stop smiling!

What 3 words would you use to describe your wedding?

Exciting, fun and unforgettable.

What was the overall vibe for your day?

It was very much a family and friends orientated day. Lots of family helped out with singing, reading and Ceili music at the drinks reception. It was great to have all of our friends together to help us celebrate.

Tell us about the search for your dream dress.

Although I’d watched Say Yes To The Dress loads before, I was still quite nervous before my first dress appointment. My mum was a great help – I could trust her opinion and we found the perfect dress soon after. In one of the boutiques, Mum even helped another bride choose her dress – talk about efficiency!

And the bridesmaid dresses?

We got the bridesmaid dresses in Pearls and Lace, Donegal Town. Our group were given a private room with drinks and popcorn while the girls tried on dresses. I thought that was a nice touch.

Where did you honeymoon?

We travelled around Thailand for three weeks on our honeymoon. We stayed in Bangkok and a few other cities before heading south for a bit of island-hopping. Our favourite island was Phi Phi, where we did lots of snorkeling, boat tours and ate plenty of local Pad Thai.

What 5 tips would you offer anyone currently planning their wedding?

Our number one tip would be to book a quality photographer nice and early. Our photos turned out really well and loads of people have complemented them.
Also, choosing a hotel with lots of experience in weddings made such a difference for us. The staff at Ballyliffin Lodge did a fantastic job making sure everything ran smoothly.
You and your other half will not always agree on everything during the planning process, but it’s good practice for compromising when you’re married!
Another tip would be not to stress about the small things – no one apart from other brides-to- be will notice the colour of the napkins on the table!
Finally – enjoy the day. It really is the best day of your life, so savour every minute!

What do you love the most about your wedding album?

We had so many great photos to choose from that it was almost difficult to whittle it down for the album, but we made sure we captured all aspects of the day. It’s brilliant to have such a high quality album now to look back on, which has all our best memories from the day.
