I love nothing more than a bride and groom with a sense of fun and Sharlene and Jonathon shared just that! I was delighted when they asked me to photograph their wedding day as I just need these guys were going to be great to work with, and I wasn’t wrong. Approaching their first wedding anniversary, I caught up with Sharlene who shares the inspiration behind her wedding day choices as well as some fab advice for all you brides embarking on your own wedding planning.
Sharlene, how did you meet your husband
I met Jonathon many moons ago in a local bar in Limavady, which is no longer opened (Roebuck) on our Christmas night out. He was ever the gentleman and walked me home and I knew from that night he was the one for me. 10 years later, we have never looked back. We now have a lovely wee son together, who is the apple of our eyes.
Tell us how Jonathon proposed
One Saturday evening on the 4th December 2010, while in my family home with my parents and sister, Jonathan decided to pop the question. After the excitement died down we headed out for our dinner to a local restaurant to be wined and dined, where the champagne flowed and we had our friends and family around us to celebrate our wonderful news. I was on cloud nine for weeks and couldn’t wait to be Mrs King and just loved showing off my bling.
When and where did you get married?
We were married on the 19th July 2014 in St Mary’s Chapel Limavady, before heading to the Roe Park Resort for our reception.
What led to you choosing your wedding venue?
The Roe Park Resort has always been a place that me and Jonathon have gone to many of times from dinner, drinks and a few spa treatments. It’s a fantastic hotel with its stunning surroundings and each and every time that we drove up the long lane to the hotel, we always knew it was the only place we wanted to have our wedding reception.
Describe your dress

And your bridesmaid dresses?

What type of flowers did you chose and why?
Roses as these are elegant and simple and I wanted them to be coloured to pull in the colour theme of the day.
What was the highlight of your day?
To become Mrs King! I couldn’t wait to see my husband-to-be waiting at the altar and to see all the planning fall into place after nearly 4 years of organisation! It was everything that I could have asked for, and more! To have all our family and friends there to celebrate our day was amazing! We couldn’t have asked for better!
What do you love most about your wedding photographs?
I loved all the photos as they caught so many emotions, from happy to joyful tears and moments that we maybe missed throughout the day, capturing memories that we will have forever.
What one piece of advice would you offer other brides?
To be organised and not get tied up too much on what other people think. Just do what you feel would make your day the way you want it! Don’t settle for anything less as it’s a special day that sets you up for the rest of your days as Mr and Mrs. I wouldn’t change one thing about my day and I’d love to do it all over again.
