The Ultimate Wedding Venue Guide: Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa

Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa is definitely one of Donegal’s most popular wedding venues and it isn’t hard to see why. Stunning views, first class service and attention to detail ensure it’s a firm favourite with couples and guests alike. This month, we caught up with the team at Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa, to delve deep into what exactly it is that makes the venue so special.

Ballyliffin

What makes Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa a popular choice with couples for their wedding day?

The Lodge is the ultimate wedding venue in the Northwest. It really has it all! From the moment you arrive at the hotel you are met with a breathtaking backdrop of sheer coastal beauty from the sandy beaches of Pollan Bay along the North Atlantic Ocean, not to mention Malin Head – Ireland’s most northerly point. With tasty local produce, highly experienced staff, wonderful décor throughout the hotel and our new Glashedy wedding garden, there really is no better time to get married here.

What makes the venue different from other hotels?

Not many hotels boast the stunning views that are present at the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa. When you have a wedding with us, you are the main priority. You basically take over our stunning coastal property for your big day and our team will work with you from start to finish to make sure that your day runs perfectly. As well as a Rolls Royce Phantom, we also have an S-Class Mercedes to choose from as complimentary wedding cars for our couples.

We cater for smaller, intimate weddings of up to 100 guests to larger weddings of up to 500 guests.  Our lavishly designed Aughrim function suite with appointed bar acts as the perfect room for your delicious meal and evening’s entertainment. You could even enjoy your civil ceremony in the hotel in our sun-bathed front room or out on our Glashedy wedding garden, overlooking the stunning coastal scenery. We have a range of packages and options to suit all couples throughout the year, which can be tailored to suit your needs.

How do you ensure couples get the wedding of their dreams?

Basically it’s in our motto – “You dream it, we’ll do it.” Our experienced staff work tirelessly to make sure your day is everything you ever wished it would be. It’s simply what we do here.

What tips would you offer couples to ensure a stress-free wedding?

Simply work with our wedding team here at the Lodge. We have so much experience in providing exceptional weddings for our happy couples that we will make it a stress-free zone for all concerned and one of the happiest days of your life.

What is the most unique wedding day request you’ve ever honoured?

There’s too many to choose from! Every couple is different, with different views, expectations and requirements, which is why we sit down with you and understand exactly what it is you want. We then do everything in our power to make that a reality for you.

CEREMONY LOCATIONS

You have a number of popular local locations for the service. St. Mary’s, Clonmany is really popular as is the little chapel right beside the hotel. You also have the option to get married in the hotel itself and the room can look beautiful for the service.

TOP WEDDING PHOTO LOCATIONS FOR YOUR AN BALLYLIFFIN LODGE & SPA WEDDING:

The lodge is nestled in Ballyliffin in County Donegal. It sits on the most beautiful coast a stones throw from the beach and lots of other amazing locations nearby. Here’s a run down of my favourite spots.

I love the door of the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa for a photo when couple’s arrive at the venue.

Inside the hotel the bridal suite is a great spot if the weather isn’t on your side.

The staircase is a great spot for photos and we often take family groups there later in the evening.

The hotel have added a new wedding garden which is for the exclusive use of couples. I’ll add an image of that soon.

Close by is Ballyliffin Beach. It’s rugged and can be windy, but pretty spectacular and it offers a range of backdrops from beach, to rocks to sand dunes.

My favourite time to visit Ballyliffin Beach is at sunset. You can get some incredible images if the weather is right.

The Isle of Doagh is my favourite local location. The beach is really pristine, it’s protected from the wind somewhat and you’ve got the option to climb for an incredible vista of the local area.

This little spot is on the road to Ballyliffin – it’s protected from the elements and I love the tree in the backdrop. Also the Rolls Royce always looks amazing!

Glenevin Waterfall is in Clonmany. Around the Tea House is really sweet, but if you decide to go to the waterfall it’s a bit of a walk, but does look cool! Here’s a shot from the bridge over the water which is right at the start of the walk.

This house is by the hotel. It’s private, but you may be able to pay to shoot in the gardens.

We were blessed to capture Maria and Jack’s wedding in the hotel last year. Check out their wedding highlight film which includes some cool drone footage of the local area.

I hope you enjoyed this guide to your Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa Wedding. It’s such a great location for a wedding and the opportunity for sunset images on Ballyliffin Beach is irresistible!
