Just before they celebrated their first wedding anniversary, I caught up with newlywed Sinead who reminisced about their stunning wedding at St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn, followed by a reception at Harvey’s Point, Donegal. Here, Sinead gives us a glimpse into their wedding day.
Sinead, how did you and Connor meet?
We met 10 years ago when we worked together in Wetherspoons, in the Diamond, Derry. We hit it off straight away.
Tell us about married life
The first year has been hectic enough as we have moved house, but apart from that, it’s the same as always, which isn’t a bad thing! We already have two children and have lived together for 7 years but it is definitely nice being married.
What is your favourite memory of the day?
I would say the look on Connor’s face when he saw me. He said he knew I would look good but he was still shocked.
What three words would you use to describe your wedding?
Best…day…ever!!
What was the overall vibe for your wedding?
We were really going for a chilled, relaxed vibe. I’m usually highly strung and Connor is the chilled out one in our relationship but the week before the wedding we switched roles! Conor didn’t relax until he saw me walking up that aisle, and thankfully the rest of the day was exactly how we both imagined.
Tell us about the search for your dream dress
I visited a couple of shops before going to Bridal Elegance Boutique. I let my bridesmaids choose five dresses each for me to try on, and my mum also picked one which was on a mannequin in the store. As soon as I saw it I didn’t like it so I tried all the rest on first. None of them were right and when I tried on mum’s choice, I knew it was ‘the one’. Mum was absolutely delighted and said: “Mums always know best!”. The dress was fishtail lace with straps and beautiful embellishment on the bust area. I love it!
And the bridesmaid dresses?
I purchased the dresses from The Bridal Showroom but added my own twist by having them altered to include a slit at the back. I loved the colour of them and the girls looked great!
Where did you honeymoon?
We went on a city break to Prague for a few days in September. It was lovely and warm and the relaxing break we both wanted.
What five tips would you offer anyone currently planning their wedding?
- Don’t listen to anyone else. If you want something, get it! It’s YOUR wedding day!
- Don’t have any regrets.
- Relax and enjoy it. Don’t fret about who can and can’t go.
- Hire a good photographer and videographer as after the wedding, this is all that is left.
- Enjoy the day as it goes so quickly. Take it all in!
What do you love most about your wedding album?
Every single photo is fantastic in our album. We even went to the bridge and got some fantastic shots there. Donal captured every detail. We love it!
