Features Editor, Aideen McCanny shares her top five celebrity weddings of 2014
From secret ceremonies to couture gowns, 2014 was definitely a glamorous affair when it came to celebrity weddings, and will forever be remembered as the year the world’s most eligible bachelor tied the knot! I love a good celebrity wedding and so I’ve rounded up my top five favourites of 2014.
1. George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
In a ceremony that oozed style and sophistication, heart throb George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin on Saturday 27 September, witnessed by family and friends at the Aman Canal Grande in Venice, Italy. Two days later, Clooney and his human rights lawyer bride legally tied the knot in a civil ceremony during which Amal wore an Oscar de la Rental gown and George wore Armani. The star studded FROW included Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford, Bono and Anna Wintour. Now that’s a guest list!
2. Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl
Olivia Palermo is one helluva stylish lady and her wedding attire certainly didn’t disappoint! The bride looked effortlessly stunning in an elegant custom made three-piece look by wedding designer, Carolina Herrera. Olivia personified bridal bliss in a cashmere sweater paired with chic white shorts (imagine that), overlaid with a full tulle skirt cinched at the waist in layers of satin and silk. Her something blue came in the form of Manolo Blahnik shoes (of course) and her signature simple sophisticated ponytail completed the look.
Fashion’s IT girl married her equally dapper partner of six years, Johannes Huebl in an intimate ceremony in Bedford, New York while family and close friends watched on.
3. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Is there a dreamier couple than Brangelina? Hollywood’s most famous duo finally fulfilled our wishes and tied the knot on 23 August. It truly was a family affair as the couple said their “I dos” in front of just 20 of their closest family and friends in their chateau in France. The kids got in on the action with Maddox and Pax escorting Angelina down the isle, as flower girls Zaraha and Vivienne adorably threw rose petals and Shiloh and Knox acted as ring bearers. And of course, the wedding dress was one of the world’s best kept secrets! The actress wore a silky ivory dress created by her go-to designer, Donatella Versace, featuring a bodice with thin straps and flowing skirt, and wait for it, a veil embellished with her kids’ drawings.

4. Fearne Cotton and Jesse Wood
It was a glittering affair with vintage vibes when TV personality and radio presenter Fearne Cotton wed rocker Jesse Wood. The blushing boho bride married her partner of three years in a stylish but low key London summer wedding. Fearne donned an Emilio Pucci gown, custom made by the brand’s creative director, Peter Dundas. The white tulle gown gave a nod to a bygone era, with a flowing tea length skirt that cascaded to above the ankle. The girl likes her bling! A sequin embellished panel gave the dress just a hint of modernity and sparkly finishing touches included encrusted sandals and a glittery headband.
Singer Tom Odell serenaded the couple for their first dance and celebrity guests included Fearne’s bestie Holly Willoughby, Jesse’s father Ronnie Wood, Keith Lemon and Dermot O’Leary.

5. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Did you really think I wouldn’t mention one of the most talked about celebrity weddings EVER? On 24 May, Kimye tied the knot and it was every bit as lavish as we could have hoped for. In a ceremony in Florence, Italy, the bride and groom wore custom Givenchy getups with North West even sporting a haute couture dress which matched her mum’s. That baby’s got style!
After saying their vows in front of the most extravagant floral arrangements of all time, the pair and their guests, including the Kardashian clan, partied at the reception, complete with a four-course feast and seven-tiered wedding cake, phew! For the reception, Kim swapped Givenchy for Balmain, donning a short, cream coloured, custom dress, before being regaled by an epic 20 minute speech from Kanye.
