The Ultimate Wedding Venue Guide: Villa Rose

Nestled in Ballybofey resides Villa Rose Hotel & Spa.

The family-owned hotel has long been a popular wedding venue. So what is it that makes this hidden gem so popular and could it be the perfect spot for your wedding day? Here, we catch up with the team at Villa Rose who give us the scope on what it is that makes this charming venue so special. Plus, check out our round-up of top wedding photo spots.

Tell us about Villa Rose. Why are couples drawn to it?

The Villa Rose is a popular choice because we are perfectly situated within Donegal and yet still in close proximity to Tyrone, Fermanagh, Derry and Sligo. We can cater for the entire wedding, from the in-house ceremony right up to the after party the next day. Our wedding team have been here from the very beginning. They pour their wealth of experience and knowledge into each and every wedding reception from the initial planning stage right through to the big day itself.

What makes the venue different from other hotels?

At Villa Rose we only ever commit to and cater for one wedding a day, meaning that the bride and groom receive our full attention and focus. Being family-run has a huge influence as the owner personally oversees every single dish that leaves the banqueting kitchen on the day of a wedding. If it doesn’t meet his standards, quite simply, it doesn’t go out.

What wedding options are available at the venue?

At the Villa Rose, we cater for weddings from 50 up to 350 people and can offer a small and intimate wedding or a larger traditional family affair. As a location for your reception, the hotel is synonymous with the highest quality of excellent food, professional service and attention to detail.

We can provide the full wedding day including civil ceremony in our dedicated civil ceremony venue, complete with an aisle. We have our own private gardens and thatched cottage creating the perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs.

At Villa Rose we understand no two weddings are ever the same, which is why we pride ourselves on being able to offer bespoke packages and extras to suit a range of styles, tastes and budgets. From our Heineken bars and gin carts on arrival, to our very own Villa Rose candy cart, we offer a variety of ways in which couples can enhance their reception.

How do you ensure couples get the wedding of their dreams?

The number one way in which we ensure couples get the wedding of their dreams is by listening to them. We really get to know each couple, getting a feel for what the bride and groom want and what is most important to them on their wedding day. For some couples it’s all about the table plan, or keeping to the intended time schedule, while some are worried about nerves during speeches. Our wedding team then ensure that whatever it is, they have it taken care of and that the bride and groom can rest assured and enjoy their day.

What tips would you offer couples to ensure a stress-free wedding?

  • Delegate as many of the last minute wedding tasks as you can to family and close friends.
  • Leave yourself free on the morning of your wedding to get yourself ready. Take it all in and enjoy the morning with your bridal party.
  • From a hotel point of view, let you guests book their own accommodation. Once you have given guests the hotel details and the special wedding rates, they should all be able to arrange their own accommodation. This means one less thing for you to do. Almost everyone is familiar with online bookings nowadays and can usually do it from their smart phones.
  • Don’t stress about your table plan. There will always be last minute changes or someone who would have preferred to sit at a different table, but believe me, that is the last thing anyone will remember about your wedding day.
  • Finally, focus on marrying each other and the let the hotel wedding professionals take care of the rest.

What is the most unique wedding day request you’ve ever honoured?

Every couple we meet is unique and brings something different to their wedding day. There have been so many changes and trends over the past 12 years from photo booths and gin carts to singing waiters and Irish dancers. I remember when chair covers were the latest wedding must-have and now they are seen as the norm. We’ve seen so many trends from the Instagram frame props to framed photographs of parents beside the wedding cake to flip flops and even crisp sandwiches at the evening buffet. We are always intrigued to see what will be next.
