REDCASTLE HOTEL WEDDING, DONEGAL: EDEL + PAUL

After appearing in a play in Leeds one night, Paul went for a post show drink with a friend to a pub called ‘Carpe Diem,’ and this seemed all too apt as it was where he ‘seized the day’ and met his wife, the lovely Edel. Set against the backdrop of Redcastle, Co. Donegal, stands the incredibly beautiful, St. Columba’s Church in Drung, where the couple exchanged vows in a highly personal service. Edel’s brother was one of the priests saying the service and this really added to the occasion. Edel looked radiant as she made her way up the aisle to greet Paul, who awaited his bride at the altar.

After the service the bridal party enjoyed a reception at Carlton Redcastle Hotel, which has truly breath taking views. Edel and Paul had asked me to get candid portraits of the guests, so rather than posing many of the shots, I blended into the background and shot many of the guests with my 70-200mm lens when they were chatting and having fun throughout the rest of the evening.

The weather on the day of the wedding was not great, but this didn’t dampen spirits and we managed to get outside for formal groups after the service and then for some photos against some really cool boats Edel had spotted. This is the challenge of being a wedding photographer in Ireland, you really have to be prepared for poor weather (wish I lived in California!).

I really enjoyed shooting the details in the morning as Edel’s dress and shoes etc were really lovely and with the use of the backdrop of the bridal suite in Carlton Redcastle Hotel I could get really creative.

The colour of the pillows and bed spread were similar to the flowers and bridesmaid dress, so I went hung the bridal gown from the cool wall feature – I think it worked well.

Edel looked stunning as she had her hair and make-up done.

I shot the rings on the wall outside the church, loved the texture of the wall.

Lots of fun shooting best man, Nick and groom, Paul.

The stunning St. Columba’s Church in Drung, Co. Donegal.

Again love these candid looks during the wedding service, they really capture the emotion of the day.

Bride and groom.

The guests had a really great day – fun to shoot this one!

The blue door in front of the church was a good backdrop for the formals.

Love this shot – seconds later the heavens opened and it didn’t stop for twenty minutes, so I had to move fast!

I think this is my favourite shot from the day, the boats provided the perfect backdrop for contemporary and fun images.

The bridal party, Nick on the left was great fun, bride and groom look great and bridesmaid, Sinead looks fantastic.

Donegal is so beautiful – the perfect backdrop for the wedding.

I like these images, a little less formal and lots of fun!

I thought this was such a great idea.

Flower girl, Sienna, was very cute and I was happy to catch this portrait in as she sat on the window sill (can you see dad in the window making her smile).

Paul who is a chef made the wedding cake, which had to transported over from England very carefully by car and I’ve got to say it’s one of the most spectacular I’ve seen, so I enjoyed capturing that.

The best man’s speech had Paul and Edel in stitches at times, but which was very heartfelt too.

The couple had a really cool routine rehearsed for the first dance that wowed everyone in attendance.

I shot a couple of portraits of Edel and the back of her stunning wedding dress on a couple of staircases in the hotel. Not sure which staircase is better so included both!

A great end to a fantastic day – we ventured outside in the light rain to capture this stunning image of the happy couple with the city lights in the  background.
